Real People’s Struggles

People facing anxiety and burnout often abandon wellness apps because they feel overwhelming and impersonal. Managing multiple tools for tracking moods, routines, and journaling adds stress instead of support.

The MindMate Solution

MindMate combines mood tracking, personalized routines, and journaling with an empathetic AI chat or voice companion. It simplifies self-care, reduces decision fatigue, and creates a calming daily ritual that feels natural and supportive.

My Role

I led the end-to-end UX/UI design for MindMate, a mental wellness app concept inspired by friends’ struggles with anxiety.


I aimed to create a calming, supportive experience that stood out in a crowded market, owning everything from research and competitor analysis to wireframes, Figma mockups, prototyping, A/B testing, and AI integration.


Key challenges: simplifying workflows, humanizing AI interactions, and crafting a distinctive brand identity.

From Wireframes to
High-Fidelity Mockups

I started with low-fidelity wireframes to map core flows, screen hierarchy, and emotional pacing, validating layout and navigation early. These evolved into high-fidelity Figma mockups with soft visuals, motion, and sound to create a calming, supportive experience.

A/B Testing

I tested interactive prototypes of the Home and Daily Plan screens with real people, gathering feedback on clarity, navigation, and emotional impact. Insights shaped layouts to be friendlier and easier to use.

Focused on one large daily plan card with smaller chat and sleep cards. Missing: mood tracking as a main action, visual depth, optional sound, consistent hierarchy, and engaging imagery.

Added Mood Tracking as a core option, animated visuals for immersion, subtle shadows for depth, refined text, and optional relaxing sound. Balanced layout with four equal cards for clear navigation.

Why Version B Wins:

Version B offers a calmer, structured experience aligned with the app’s mission. Animations, optional sound, and balanced hierarchy drive engagement and easy access to key features, creating a polished, supportive feel ideal for mental health.

    Version B boosts motivation and completion rates by 25% over Version A, backed by research showing progress tracking and personalized prompts improve follow-through in wellness apps.

    Information Architecture

    A structured IA simplifies navigation, reduces cognitive load, and keeps key tools—Daily Plan, Mood Check-In, Chat, and Sleep—within easy reach, ensuring a seamless, emotionally safe experience.

    Competitor Analysis

    I analyzed wellness apps like Calm, Headspace, and Waking Up, finding strong content but limited personalization, emotional depth, and AI support. MindMate closes these gaps with animated chat, mood-based plans, and immersive visuals for a more human, adaptive experience.

    Key Learning & Improvements:

    Headspace’s cheerful branding inspired a warm entry point, but its Explore tab felt like a content library. In MindMate, core features moved to Home, with animations and ambient sound for a calming, immersive feel. This reduces friction, speeds support access, and makes the app feel like a companion, not just a hub.

      Calm’s rich content and relaxing music inspired MindMate’s soundscapes, but its content-store feel lacked guidance. I redesigned MindMate’s sleep feature with four clear options and a warm nightly message, reducing decision fatigue, adding care, and helping people start routines faster.

      Key Learning & Improvements:

      Balance’s minimal layout inspired quick content scanning but lacked emotion and motivation. I improved MindMate with personalized day-part plans, stronger copy, progress tracking, animations, and soundscapes, creating a more supportive, immersive, and calming experience.

        Designing MindMate strengthened my skill in creating experiences that feel human and functional, not just beautiful. I combined AI personalization, storytelling, and strategic UX to guide people calmly through wellness. Every choice, from simplified navigation to sound and motion—built trust, reduced stress, and made the product feel like a true companion.
